Who is Stephen Harper?

The difference between a politician and a statesman is that a politician thinks about the next election while the statesman thinks about the next generation.         –James Freeman Clarke

When so many believe Stephen is a punishing political predator who deems it essential to his success to surround himself with a posse of cronies, lackeys, spin doctors, doormats, and toadies, who are we to doubt their truth?

When so many believe that Stephen governs by dividing and distracting us while exploiting our fears and forbidding his posse to say one thing about his plans without his say so, who are we question their intelligence?

Rather then go back over these now commonplace perspectives, we offer only this: Stephen has never been a statesman. A statesman is a leader who can build a consensus to achieve her vision while exhibiting great wisdom and ability in directing the affairs of a government. That’s not Stephen, is it?

  1. Unfortunately this does not describe many politicians of any part these days. It is a sad state of affairs. I have seen people enter politics for very good reasons and a commitment to serve their constituents with integrity and honesty, only to see them subsumed by the system in less than a year. Something is very wrong with the system.
